What is a combi boiler?

Combi boilers are the most common appliances in UK houses. They instantly heat water and do not require any storage or tank in the loft.

What is a system boiler?

A system boiler works in conjunction with a cylinder, does not require any tank in the loft, but cannot provide instant hot water. For this reason, they are a bit less efficient than combi boilers.

What is a standard or heat-only boiler?

Standard boilers, also called regular boilers or heat-only boilers, were very common in the past. They heat up your hot water and store it in a cylinder. If you have a standard boiler, you also have tanks in your loft.
